In a deal that involved $50 million in “new money”, offensive tackle La’el Collins signed a five-year contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys. The details of the agreement include a two-year guarantee as well as $35 million in total guarantees to be paid to Collins.

While his chances in the 2015 NFL Draft were scrapped due to legal issues, Collins was picked up by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent, in a three-year deal worth $1.5 million.

After starting 14 matches and enjoying some impressive stats, the Cowboys decided to revise the deal, giving Collins a pay rise and securing a two-year contract extension worth around $15.4 million.

Before concluding the agreement, Collins made the following statement: “I’m a firm believer in, you go to work, you handle your business, you do everything that they ask of you – they see that,” Collins said. “For me, I feel like that was just something I could control. Control everything that I can, just go to work every day. I figured the time would come”.

This is just one of several agreements that the Dallas Cowboys have concluded over the summer, with the likes of Ezekiel Elliot also putting pen to paper to extend life in Dallas.
