D.C. United’s talented attacking midfielder Luciano Acosta was close to joining Paris Saint-Germain in January, but the deal fell through and the 25-year-old ended up staying in MLS. However, as his contract with D.C. is expiring after this season, Acosta might get a chance to play in Europe after all.

Respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio recently reported that Acosta emerged as a target for La Liga side Sevilla. According to Di Marzio, Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi thinks highly of the Argentinian and is “pressing” to sign him to a deal.

Acosta has also drawn interest from clubs from China, who can offer him a far more lucrative contract. Prior to this, The Athletic’s Pablo Maurer reported that Manchester United also showed interest in the player and was scouting him back in April.

Luciano Acosta joined D.C. United in 2016 on a season-long loan from Boca Juniors, with the MLS side making the deal permanent the following year. He had his breakthrough season in 2018 when he scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists, managing to earn selection to MLS Best XI.

Acosta played a total of 20 games in MLS this season, contributing five goals and one assist.
