La Liga president Javier Tebas has expressed his desire for former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the Spanish top flight. This comes after weeks of speculation regarding Ronaldo’s reported dissatisfaction with life at Manchester United, as well as his desire to play Champions League football next season.
Ronaldo has been linked with a potential move to Atletico Madrid, a club with which his agent Jorge Mendes has enjoyed a good relationship. Still, such rumors have not gone down well with the Atleti fanbase due to the 37-year-old player’s bad blood with the club during his time as a Real Madrid player.
“Whether it is feasible or not for Atletico Madrid, I do not know. There would have to be some player departures if they wanted to [sign him]. To sign a player of that level, you must make room [financially],” Tebas admitted, despite stating that he would like to see the Portuguese forward return to La Liga.
Atletico’s president Enrique Cerezo has struck down the possibility of Ronaldo moving to the club, calling the move “practically impossible”. Still, Ronaldo’s future remains in the balance. After missing Man Utd’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to personal reasons, the veteran striker arrived at the Red Devils’ training ground on Tuesday and engaged in discussions with head coach Erik ten Hag.
