LA Galaxy moved fast with their search for a new manager after recently firing Guillermo Barros Schelotto. According to multiple reports, the club approached club legend Robbie Keane and is viewing him as their first choice for the position.

ESPN reports that Galaxy prepared a list of names they would like to hire and are set on talking with all the potential candidates before making the final choice. Still, Keane is viewed as an ideal fit given his ties with the club and the experience he got serving as an assistant under Mick McCarthy and Jonathan Woodgate.

Galaxy isn’t expected to make the official hiring until the end of the 2020 MLS regular season, considering they have lost all playoff chances. Assistant Dominic Kinnear will see out the remainder of the campaign in an interim role.

Robbie Keane played for Galaxy between 2011 and 2016 and is often regarded as one of the best to play for the club and in MLS in general. During his time in the United States, Keane scored an impressive 104 goals in 165 games in all competitions while helping the club win three MLS Cups. He also won numerous individual accolades, including the MLS MVP award in 2014 and four MLS Best XI nods.

After leaving Galaxy, Keane briefly served as a player/coach in Indian Super League with ATK before taking roles on coaching staff with Ireland national team and English Championship side Middlesbrough.
