The Los Angeles Galaxy unveiled a bronze statue of club legend Landon Donovan on Sunday. The statue, located outside Dignity Health Sports Park, has been placed near a similar statue of David Beckham which was inaugurated in 2019.

According to MLS Don Garber, Donovan was an essential figure in the development of soccer, not only with the LA Galaxy but across the United States as a whole.

“If Landon didn’t make the decision to come back to Major League Soccer at the time that he did and come to the Galaxy in 2005 [and] tell the world that MLS was his league, the Galaxy was his club, [that] he was going to help build soccer in his country, we would not be where we are today,” Garber stated at the unveiling ceremony.

Donovan expressed his delight at being awarded a statue in his honor. He expressed appreciation for the 10 years that he spent with the Galaxy, as well as the support he received from the club, his teammates, and fans.

During their time at the club, Donovan and Beckham provided Los Angeles with the most dominant four-year run in MLS history, earning two Supporters’ Shields and two MLS trophies in three MLS Finals appearances.
