LA Galaxy have secured the transfer of attacking midfielder Gabriel Pec from Vasco Da Gama, paying a club-record fee of $10 million. This breaks the previous record transfer fee that Galaxy paid to lure in Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez from Sevilla in 2020.
In addition, the Los Angeles-based team could pay an additional $1.5 million if certain incentives are met, while Vasco Da Gama will retain 30% of Pec’s rights if the player is subsequently transferred to another team.
Pec proved to be a key player for Vasco in Brazil’s Serie A last year, scoring 14 goals and providing five assists across 50 games. The Brazilian forward forms part of the Galaxy’s plan to rebuild in 2024 following several disappointing seasons in the MLS. The team last won the MLS Cup in 2014.
