One of the most captivating transfer stories this summer was Real Madrid’s attempt to sign French star forward Kylian Mbappe. Real reportedly made several offers to Paris Saint-Germain for the player, but the Ligue 1 powerhouse decided to reject them all despite Mbappe’s wish to make the switch.

Mbappe previously didn’t comment on the potential move but has now decided to share his side of the story in a chat with RMC Sport. According to the 22-year-old star, he not only wanted to go to Santiago Bernabeu but asked PSG to let him leave back in July.

“I asked to leave because from the moment I didn’t want to extend [my contract], I wanted the club to receive a transfer fee to bring in a quality replacement,” Mbappe said. “It’s a club that’s given me a lot, I’ve always been happy during the four years I’ve been here and I still am. I said it early enough so that the club could react.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Mbappe said that he isn’t unhappy at PSG despite the club refusing to let him leave while also rebuffing reports that he rejected “five or six contract offers” to stay at Parc des Princes.

Mbappe will be free to decide on his future starting January, when he becomes eligible to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choosing. His current deal with PSG expires in June, and he will be able to walk for free.

Mbappe played  11 matches in PSG jersey this season, scoring four goals and adding 11 assists.
