Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL, coach Kliff Kingsbury confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

Murray was injured during the Cardinals’ 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots loss on Monday night. The quarterback collapsed after a three-yard run in the third play of the game, suffering the non-contact injury in the process. On Tuesday, he underwent an MRI that revealed the extent of this injury.

“That’s obviously unfortunate and tough to see,” Kingsbury said of Murray’s injury predicament. “And talking to him last night, um, yeah, it was a tough night.”

Despite being ruled out for the rest of the season, there are still some more tests that Murray is expected to undergo in order to learn the full extent of his injury. Kingsbury expects to receive a final report on the player’s situation on Wednesday.

With just four games left in the season, the Cardinals appear to be out of the running for a postseason berth. Should they be unable to turn their fortunes around, they will at least look to leapfrog the Seattle Seahawks to grab second place in the NFC West.
