Veteran point guard Kyle Lowry is staying home after agreeing to a new deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. Lowry, who reportedly inked a one-year contract, confirmed the news on social media.

Lowry, who grew up in Philly and played college basketball at Villanova, initially joined the 76ers in February following his contract buyout with the Charlotte Hornets. He played 23 games in the 2023-24 regular season, averaging 8.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Lowry attracted interest from several contenders in recent weeks and was considering his options before the 76ers came in with an offer to keep him in Philadelphia. While he isn’t expected to get as much playing time as last season, he should still provide valuable experience and bench depth to the team.

Lowry is best known for his time with the Toronto Raptors, where he spent nine seasons (2012-2021) and established himself as a franchise legend. He helped the Raptors to win its first NBA title in 2019 while also being their all-time leader in several categories, including assists and steals. He also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat.

By bringing back Lowry, the 76ers continued their busy offseason. The franchise previously landed All-Star Paul George on a four-year, $221 million contract, signed guard Tyrese Maxey to a max rookie extension, and brought in a number of free agents, including veteran Eric Gordon.
