The Sacramento Kings have wrapped up their head coaching search, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Kings’ new head coach will reportedly be the Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Brown.

Brown and the franchise finalized a four-year deal over the weekend. The 52-year-old coach will succeed Alvin Gentry, who coached the Kings on an interim basis for the better part of the 2021-22 NBA season. Sacramento previously fired Luke Walton after he opened the campaign with a 6-11 record.

Before joining the Kings, Brown will first see out the remainder of the Warriors’ playoff run. Golden State currently has a 2-1 lead over the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference semi-finals.

Once he comes to Sacramento, Mike Brown will be tasked with getting the Kings back to the postseason. The franchise hasn’t reached the postseason for the past 16 seasons, which is the longest playoff drought in NBA history. The closest they’ve been during that period was the 2018-19 season when they finished 9th in the Western Conference with a 39-43 record.

Brown previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers on two occasions and also had a short stint with the Lakers. His biggest success was reaching the NBA Finals in 2006–07 with the Cavs, where Cleveland was swept by the San Antonio Spurs. Brown has been Steve Kerr’s assistant with the Warriors since 2016.
