The transfer saga involving U.S. International Weston McKennie just received a surprising twist. While McKennie seemed Premier League-bound just a few days ago, ESPN reported on Wednesday that Seria A giants Juventus has now entered the race for the 21-year-old midfielder.

It isn’t a secret that Schalke 04 wants to sell McKennie as the Bundesliga side finds itself in a tough financial situation. So far, clubs from Premier League, including Southampton and Newcastle United, seemed like the main favorites to land the talented midfielder, but their plans could be spoiled by Juve, who decided to make a last-minute swoop.

According to ESPN, the Italian giants have turned their attention to McKennie after Andrea Pirlo took over as a manager. Pirlo urged the club to advance the talks and would like to see the deal completed soon.

Reportedly, McKennie wouldn’t have anything against the move, believing he could play a significant role for the Seria A champs.

Weston McKennie is coming off a breakthrough season with Schalke in which he secured a starting role and made 32 appearances in Bundesliga. McKennie also emerged as a key piece in USMNT’s midfield, playing 12 games last year and scoring five times.
