New Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee scored the winner during his debut for his new club; the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Fulham in what was the Red Devils’ first Premier League match of the season. While the game was a close affair, Zirkzee’s goal in the 87th minute broke the deadlock, handing Man United a well-deserved breakthrough.

“It’s the perfect one, no?,” Zirkzee said of his goal. “In front of the Stretford End. And a win as well, it couldn’t be any better. It’s been very good [since I arrived]. The group have been amazing, I feel very comfortable and at home here. I’m having a very good time.” Despite the pressure of playing for a big club, Zirkzee maintained that he focuses on training hard, ignoring the enormity of his new club.

At 23 years of age, Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford for a fee of £36.5 million ($47.3 million) from Italian Serie A club Bologna. In addition to helping Bologna secure a coveted UEFA Champions League spot this season, Zirkzee played for the Netherlands at the Euro 2024 tournament in the summer, with the Dutch squad making it to the semifinal of the competition.
