After playing 16 NFL seasons, Josh McCown announced his retirement in order to spend more time with his family. Although he was planning to be an ESPN analysis this season, he mentioned that if the right opportunity came along he would “strongly consider” playing again.

The right opportunity has come along after 2 Eagles backup quarterbacks went down with injuries this preseason. Cody Kessler and Nate Sudfeld each suffered injuries that will keep them out for a while, and this prompted the Eagles to reach out to McCown.

McCown has played for 11 different teams, most recently playing for the New York Jets before his short retirements stint. He is one of 7 QB’s in football history who has attempted a pass with 7 different teams and has the chance to make it 8 if he gets playing time in Philadelphia.

The Eagles have reportedly given him a one year deal worth $2 million in guaranteed money and could be worth up to $5.2. McCown is expected to resume his plan to be an ESPN analyst when his one year deal is up.
