Goaltender Joey Daccord has signed a five-year contract with the Seattle Kraken in a deal worth $5 million annually. Before concluding the deal, Daccord was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, in the last of his two-year deal, earning a salary of $1.2 million annually.
Viewed as a third option in the Kraken’s roster upon his arrival, Daccord has emerged as the goaltender of choice for the team amid a series of injury setbacks and underperformance affecting his teammates. Daccord enjoyed a career-high campaign last season, maintaining a .916 save percentage and going 19-18-11 with a 2.46 goals/against average.
Daccord is the latest in a huge influx of goaltenders being awarded with new contracts in recent times. Linus Ullmark received a new four-year, $8.25 million deal with the Ottawa Senators. Jeremy Swayman closed an eight-year, $8.25 million annually with the Boston Bruins.
