According to Yahoo Sports, Florida State University football team head coach Jimbo Fisher resigned from his position on Friday and is set to take the same position at Texas A&M University.

Jimbo Fisher informed me he has accepted an offer to become the next head football coach at Texas A&M University,” – said Florida State president John Thrasher. “Coach Fisher did an exceptional job as both an assistant coach at FSU and in the challenging role of successor to the legendary Bobby Bowden. I believe Texas A&M is getting one of the best coaches in college football. We appreciate all he has done for our program and wish him and his family great success moving forward.

Texas A&M previously fired Kevin Sumlin on November 26 after he spent six seasons with the Aggies football team. During his tenure at Texas A&M, Sumlin compiled a 51-26 record leading the Aggies to six straight above .500 seasons.

Jimbo Fisher is coming to Texas A&M after compiling 83–23 record with FSU’s Seminoles and winning one National Championship and three Atlantic Coast Conference titles. In 2016 he signed a contract extension with FSU that was supposed to keep him until 2024 and made him among the top six paid college football coaches. According to reports, Texas A&M made an even better offer, with Fisher, set to sign a 10-year deal with a salary of $7.5 million per season. This will make him the third-highest paid college football coach, behind Alabama’s Nick Saban and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney. With Fisher, Texas A&M hopes to have a better chance of capturing their first National Championship since 1939.

With Jimbo Fisher out, Florida State University will now embark on a search for a new head coach. University of Oregon head coach and Florida native Willie Taggart has been singled out as the main contender for the job.
