The New York Jets have provided their new quarterback Aaron Rodgers with more protection. The team just announced that they had signed veteran offensive tackle Billy Turner, who will join on a one-year deal.

The Jets haven’t disclosed the financial terms of the agreement, but ESPN’s Rich Cimini reports that Turner’s contract is worth up to $3.1 million.

The New York team entered the offseason with a glaring need on the offensive line. Many believed they would address it early in the 2023 NFL Draft, but they opted to select Iowa State’s edger Will McDonald in the first round instead. The Jets went on to add Pittsburgh’s offensive tackle Carter Warren in the fourth round, but there are questions about whether he can contribute right away.

With Turner in the building, the Jets can be slightly more confident in their offensive line, although it wouldn’t be surprising if they continue looking toward the free-agent market for more additions. They also have talented but injury-prone Mekhi Becton, veteran Duane Brown, and last year’s fourth-round selection Max Mitchell among the options for the position.

Billy Turner suited up with the Miami Dolphins, the Baltimore Ravens, the Denver Broncos, and the Green Bay Packers since entering the league as a third-round pick in 2014. He spent the last season with the Broncos and made seven starts.
