Defensive end John Franklin-Myers is cashing in on his good performances. The New York Jets announced on Thursday that Franklin-Myers agreed to a new deal that will keep him with the franchise through the 2025 NFL season.

Franklin-Myers himself confirmed the news, posting a photo on which he is inking the contract.

While the Jets did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, ESPN’s Rich Cimini reports that the extension is worth $55 million while Franklin-Myers gets $30 million guaranteed. This represents a huge pay rise for the 25-year-old star, considering he’s only set to make $920,000 in 2021.

Speaking with reporters on Friday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that Franklin-Myers deserved the money he received and praised the player for his work habits.

“He’s been a tremendous leader, and then you see his play on the field,” Saleh said. “He’s absolutely dominant at times. .. He hasn’t even scratched the surface of where we think he can go in this system. Those are the guys you want to pay.”

John Franklin-Myers entered the league in 2018 as the Los Angeles Ram’s fourth-round draft pick. He played just one year in LA before being released by the team during the roster cuts ahead of the 2019 season.

Franklin-Myers didn’t even manage to hit the free agency as he was claimed off waivers by the Jets. It proved to be a smart gamble by the New York team, as Stephen F. Austin product played really well when given an opportunity. He started all four games this season, totaling 3.0 sacks, 15 tackles, and one forced fumble.
