Wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s future with the New York Jets looks uncertain at best. Hardman struggled to get on the field since signing a one-year deal with the franchise in the offseason and is now reportedly on the trade block.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Jets want to find a solution for Hardman sooner rather than later, with trading him being one of the options.
Hardman was expected to have a big role in the Jets’ offense in 2023, prompting the front office to give him a deal that came with a $4 million base salary and an additional $1.5 million available in incentives. However, the 25-year-old player played just 24 snaps throughout the first five weeks and has one catch for six yards to show for.
The Jets made Hardman inactive in a 31-21 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday, and the sentiment is that he won’t play for the Jets anymore.
Mecole Hardman entered the league in 2019 as the second-overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. He earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in his rookie season as a return specialist while helping the Chiefs win a Super Bowl.
As a wide receiver, Hardman had 151 catches for 2,088 yards and 16 touchdowns in four seasons with the Chiefs while winning another Super Bowl.
