Philadelphia 76ers’ special adviser Jerry Colangelo will leave the franchise once his contract expires after the 2018 season. Colangelo, who currently serves as a director of USA Basketball, told Washington Post that his tenure with the 76ers is “over at the end of the year.”

This move isn’t all that surprising, given the fact that this son, Bryan Colangelo, resigned as 76ers’ former president of basketball operations a few months ago. Colangelo Jr. decided to leave his post after it was discovered that his wife Barbara criticized 76ers’ player and members of the organization on Twitter while using fake accounts.

I haven’t made any public comments about what transpired,”- said Jerry Colangelo about his son’s situation. “I don’t think it would be appropriate. It’s a very difficult summer for him and his family.

Jerry Colangelo will stay involved with the USA Basketball for the foreseeable future, although he intended to leave in 2016 alongside head coach Mike Krzyzewski. But after the new coach, Gregg Popovich, said he would only take the job if Colangelo stays, the 78-year-old decided to stick around.

So, in my mind, that gets me through 2020,” -Colangelo said. “And then, we’ll see.

Jerry Colangelo entered the NBA in 1966, working on various jobs with the Chicago Bulls. In 1968 he was named the general manager of Phoenix Suns, becoming the youngest GM in professional sports. During his tenure with the Suns, he won four Executive of the Year awards and even owned the team from 1987 to 2004. Colangelo had investments in other sports including baseball and hockey.

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
