Bayern Munich’s center back Jerome Boateng was close to leaving Germany this summer, with both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain being interested in bringing him in. Despite receiving lucrative offers from both teams, the 30-year-old ultimately decided to reject them in favor of staying with Bayern.

During a recent interview with Germany’s Bild, Boateng explained the reasons for his decision saying that he feels “completely contended” at his current club.

I had inquiries from Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United, and I considered them,” – said Boateng. “Not because I wanted to leave Bayern Munich by all means. It was no escape, but rather the thrill of a new challenge. I feel completely contended at Bayern one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Jerome Boateng also confirmed the reports that he personally told Man Utd’s coach Jose Mourinho about his reasons for rejecting the move.

I phoned Jose Mourinho and told him that his interest honored me and thanked him that he put his back into United for me,” – he said. “I explained to him my reasons for not joining.”

After establishing himself as one of the world’s most talented defenders with HSV, Jerome Boateng signed with Manchester City in 2010. He didn’t manage to find his footing with City and left after one season to join Bayern Munich. Boateng found his old form with Bayern and went on to win 13 trophies during his nine years spent with the club.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
