Former Timberwolves point guard Jamal Crawford signed a 1-year $2.4 million veteran minimum contract with the Suns on Monday.

The 38-year-old traveled to Phoenix last Friday but a deal was not finalized until Monday morning. Sun’s interim GM James Jones had confirmed the team was interested in Crawford last week while in an interview with Arizona’s 98.7M Sports Station.

“I like Jamal. I know him personally. He’s a great player, he’s a great guy,” Jones said. “Those are the types of players that we will look towards as we go through the season. More importantly, it’s not even about who potentially could be here or who’s out there. I’m focused on who’s here and we know who those guys are.”

Although he is past his prime, Crawford logged an average of 10.3 points and 2.3 assists with the Timberwolves last season. A 3-time Man of the Year and the only player to do so, Crawford will add depth to the Suns. Last year, the former Clipper’s player is great at catch and shoot chances even with his advanced age.

Crawford had a shooting rate of 41.5% last season and scored 48.3% of his signature pull-up attempts.  While he may struggle for play time due to the Suns’ reliance on Devin Booker, he will be a great addition to the 17-man roster.
