Jacksonville Jaguars spent the fifth overall pick on cornerback Jalen Ramsey in 2016 and it proved to be a great decision. Ramsey, who earned Pro Bowl selection in the past two years, established himself as one of the best CBs in the league and this is why the Jags are making sure he will stay with the organization for years to come. The first step in that process was to exercise the fifth-year option on his contract.

Jaguars confirmed on Thursday that they have picked up the option on Ramsey’s rookie contract which now extends his deal through 2020. The 24-year-old will earn $3.6 million in 2019 before netting $13.7 million in his fifth year.

Exercising Jalen Ramsey’s fifth-year option, however, won’t spare Jacksonville from having to engage in the contract negotiations with the player pretty soon. Ramsey stated on several occasions that he wants to get a new deal before the 2019 NFL season kicks off and decided to skip the team’s voluntary workouts because of that. Jags, on the other hand, are still to respond to these demands with an offer.

Ramsey finished 2018 with 65 tackles, three interceptions and 13 passes defended. His career stats include 193 tackles, nine interceptions, 44 passes defended and one defensive touchdown.
