After striking out in its bid to acquire Manchester City winger Leroy Sané, Bayern Munich turned to its back-up plan on Tuesday.

The Bundesliga giants acquired winger Ivan Perisic on loan from Inter Milan for the 2019-20 season, filling one of the biggest holes on its roster going into this year. The Croatia international will bring a Champions League pedigree and goal-scoring ability to the reigning Bundesliga trophy holders.

According to reports, Bayern Munich will pay $5.6 million to Inter for the loan of Perisic during this season. They will also reportedly have a $22.5 million option at the end of the season to acquire Perisic permanently.

Perisic is no stranger to the Bundesliga, having played in Germany from 2011 to 2015 with Borussia Dortmund and Vfl Wolfsburg.

Inter found themselves wanting to go forward without Perisic after the 30-year-old’s slightly disappointing 2018-19 campaign. After starring for the Croatian side during the 2018 World Cup, Perisic’s production slipped last season. He scored only 8 goals in the Serie A season, and only found the net once in Inter’s European campaign.

Perisic will have a new opportunity to shine in the Bundesliga and the Champions League with Bayern in 2019-20, looking to put his disappointing campaign last season behind him.
