Iowa’s star guard Caitlin Clark has set a new NCAA women’s basketball scoring record. Clark achieved the feat during a 49-point performance in a 106-89 win over Michigan.

Clark entered the game with 3,520 points scored in her college career, needing eight points to break the NCAA record held by ex-Washington star Kelsey Plum. Clark needed just five possessions against Michigan to emerge on top and managed to do it in a spectacular fashion.

With five points already scored in the game, Clark brought the ball across the halfcourt and then scored a deep three to improve to 3,528 points and take ownership of the record.

On the ensuing possession, Iowa called a timeout, allowing Clark to celebrate her big achievement with the rest of her teammates.

“I’m just thankful more than anything else,” Clark, who now has 3,569 points to her name, said after the game. “I will just be proud, proud of the way I worked for this more than anything.”

Iowa has four more games left to play this season, presenting an opportunity for Caitlin Clark to add a few more records to her name. Lynette Woodard holds the women’s college basketball record with 3,649 points, which she set pre-NCAA. On the other hand, Clark can also become the best scorer in college history by surpassing Pete Maravich, who holds the men’s college basketball record with 3,667 points.
