A packed crowd of 70,440 gathered in the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for what was the fourth Serie A match for both Inter and AC Milan in the 2019/20 season. While league points were at stake, both teams were also fighting for pride in what is arguably the most fierce rivalry in Italian soccer- the Milan derby.

Inter manager Antonio Conte looked hungry for the three points in his first Milan derby as Inter manager, and this drive was mirrored in his players’ performances. From the first whistle, Inter showed aggression on the counter-attack, while at the same time exhibiting composure when Milan had possession.

Inter were dangerous from early on, with forward Romelu Lukaku coming close to scoring in the 18th minute. Yet again in the 21st minute, Inter looked likely to break the deadlock with Martinez forcing a save by Donnaruma only for D’Ambrosio to hit the post with the rebound.

The score remained goalless going into the half time break, however, Inter would soon be rewarded for their efforts after the restart. Marcelo Brozovic put Inter in the lead in the 49th minute, while Romelu Lukaku doubled Inter’s lead in the 78th minute with a header.

This victory sees Inter retain top spot in Serie A, with a 100% record of four wins in four games.
