Inter Miami’s shaky defense could soon get a formidable addition. According to German media outlet Bild, Miami is interested in adding the ex-Germany international center-back Holger Badstuber.

Badstuber is currently under contract with the newly-promoted Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, but it appears that the 31-year-old German found himself out of favor at the club. He was assigned to Stuttgart’s reserves recently and reportedly doesn’t have a future at Mercedes-Benz Arena.

On paper, Inter has an experienced defense fronted by MLS veteran Leandro Gonzalez Pirez and Roman Torres alongside talented Andres Reyes. In reality, however, the back four hasn’t exactly managed to play on the highest level.

So far in the season, Miami wasn’t able to keep a clean sheet while conceding 13 goals in seven matches. Adding Badstuber, who is known as a capable tackler and strong presence in the aerial game, should change things for the better.

Holger Badstuber started his career with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, making his pro debut in 2009. In eight seasons with the club, Badstuber played 178 games while being a part of the squad that won the UEFA Champions League trophy and five domestic competition titles. He left Bayern as a free agent in 2017 and signed with Stuttgart.

With the German national team, Badstuber played 31 games. His last appearance was in 2015.
