It seems like Inter Miami isn’t done signing talented players from South America ahead of their inaugural MLS season. After bringing in Matias Pellegrini, Julian Carranza, and Christian Makoun, Inter is reportedly now targeting River Plates’ star midfielder Exequiel Palacios.

According to ESPN, Miami has kicked off initial talks with River over Palacios, but the two sides are still far away from making a deal. The biggest issue here is that the Argentinian powerhouse wants to maintain a strong roster ahead of Copa Libertadores and is not in the mood of selling players at the moment. According to TyCSports, Inter’s first offer was worth around $20 million.

The deal could still be done without running River’s chances for a successful season, as Palacios wouldn’t be able to dress up for Miami until 2020. It remains to be seen, however, is the player himself willing to make an MLS switch as he previously expressed a desire to play in Europe.

Exequiel Palacios made his debut with River Plate in 2015, when he was a 16-year-old. Since then he made 38 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and contributing with eight assists. Palacios also has two appearances with Argentina’s national team.
