It seems like Inter Miami is not even close to being done with constructing their roster for their inaugural MLS season in 2020. After acquiring young talent in the past months, the team decided to bring in some veteran leadership by acquiring midfielder Victor Ulloa.

Ulloa, who spent his entire professional career playing in MLS, joins via trade from FC Cincinnati. According to Miami’s official announcement, the team acquired Ulloa and the No. 1 overall pick in 2019 MLS Re-Entry Draft, while sending Cincinnati $50,000 of General Allocation Money (GAM), third-rounder in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft and the 26th overall pick in Re-Entry Draft in exchange.

The move was confirmed via the team’s official social media as well.

Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough said in a statement that the reason why his team targeted Ulloa is because of his experience and leadership skills.

“Victor brings valuable experience and league knowledge to our roster,” – said McDonough. “He is a proven defensive midfielder with quality leadership skills we value at our organization.”

Victor Ulloa started his professional career with FC Dallas, where he played between 2011 and 2018. Ulloa helped the team to win Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Supporters’ Shield during that time, while making 144 appearances, scoring five goals and dishing six assists.

Dallas traded Ulloa to Cincinnati ahead of 2019 MLS season. The 27-year-old played 26 games this year, scoring one goal and contributing with two assists.
