Former Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns wideout Ryan Switzer announced his retirement from the NFL. The 27-year-old Switzer is calling it quits after spending five seasons in the league.

Switzer made the news public via his official Twitter profile and said the injuries were what prompted him to stop with professional football. The North Carolina product dealt with back issues in the past, but it is unclear whether this is the injury that pushed him towards retirement.

However, Switzer isn’t done with football altogether and intends to venture into coaching after the end of his playing career.

“Although my playing days are over, I’m looking forward to using the knowledge and experience I’ve accumulated to help the next generation of players through coaching,” Switzer wrote. “I promise to bring the same relentless mindset that enabled me to live my dream of playing NFL football to this next chapter of my life!”

Ryan Switzer entered the league as the Dallas Cowboys’ fourth-round pick in 2017. He later spent two seasons apiece in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, although he never actually stepped on the field in a regular season game for the Browns. Switzer, who was mainly used as a returner, totaled 50 catches for 321 yards and a touchdown.
