German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is at the exit door of Barcelona despite only joining the club a year ago. According to multiple reports, Gundogan is currently mulling his future with the Catalan club and is weighing several options, including a return to Manchester City.

Gundogan joined Barca on a free transfer last summer. While City was open to retaining him, the player wanted a new challenge in his career. He ended up signing a two-year contract with the Catalan side, which was extended for another year after the performance-based clause was activated.

Gundogan immediately became a key contributor for Barca, playing in 51 games and scoring five goals alongside 14 assists. However, due to Barcelona’s dire financial situation and Gundogan’s high wages, the club is actively looking to move him. They also need funds to facilitate a transfer for RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo.

Now, Gundogan is mulling his future with the La Liga side and has drawn interest from Turkish club Galatasaray as well as several clubs from Saudi Arabia.  But, it appears that Premier League return is a priority for the player at the moment.

Man City’s manager Pep Guardiola would reportedly be happy to reunite with Gundogan, especially as his options in the midfield have dried up due to injuries. Gundogan previously played eight years with the club, scoring 60 goals and winning five Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
