Iga Swiatek is the French Open champion once again. Swiatek, the world’s No. 1 tennis player, defeated unseeded Karolina Muchova in the finals to claim her third Roland Garros title in four years.

Swiatek is now the first woman since Justine Henin to defend her French Open title. Henin did it in 2006 and 2007.

Swiatek took control of the match early, winning the first set 6-2 and getting a 3-0 lead in the second set. However, Muchova showed she didn’t come to the finals by accident and bounced back to win the second set 7-5.

The third set also offered its thrills and saw Swiatek falling behind 3-4. However, Muchova couldn’t finish the comeback, surrendering three straight games to Swiatek.

“I really love being here,” Swiatek said after the match. “Basically, it’s my favorite place on tour.”

“That happens when you play one of the best: Iga,” Muchova added. “So I want to congratulate you out loud once again and your team.”

Iga Swiatek now won her fourth career Grand Slam and solidified the spot as the best female tennis player in the world. Her reign as the No. 1 on WTA rankings now dates back to April 2022.

Karolina Muchova, on the other hand, will look to use her first Grand Slam finals as a stepping stone for bigger and better things.
