Houston Texans signed Tashaun Gipson on a three-year, $23 million deal last year, believing he will provide them a long-term solution on the safety position. However, Texans are obviously not pleased with Gipson’s showings in 2019 as they are now moving on.

Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reported on Monday that Texans informed Gipson that he is being released. The move comes with a $4.25 million in dead money for Houston.

Gipson put in more than solid performance last season, contributing with 51 tackles and three interceptions despite struggling with injuries. However, Texans opted to reshuffle their secondary, having agreed more team-friendly deals with veterans Eric Murray, Jaylen Watkins, and Michael Thomas in the offseason.

Tashaun Gipson started his NFL career in 2012 when Cleveland Browns signed him as an undrafted free agent. After an encouraging rookie season, Gipson managed to establish him as a starter and even had a Pro Bowl selection in 2014. Prior to joining Texans, he also had a three-year stint with Jacksonville Jaguars.

Gipson started a total of 104 games in NFL, and his career stats include 450 tackles, 46 pass deflections, 23 interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns.

Considering his experience and the fact that he’s only 29, Gipson shouldn’t find it hard to land another job in NFL soon.
