The Charlotte Hornets’ forward Grant Williams will miss the rest of the 2024-25 NBA season after sustaining an ACL tear in a 125-119 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks over the weekend.
Williams suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of the Bucks game. He was making a drive to the basket and made contact with Brook Lopez when his knee buckled. The six-year NBA veteran got up by himself but later needed help to get to the locker room.
The Hornets confirmed the nature of Williams’ injury on Sunday.
Williams landed in Charlotte in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks last season. In 2024-25, he played in 16 games, making seven starts, and averaged 10.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
Williams’ injury leaves the Hornets in a tough spot, considering they are already thin in front court. They have centers Mark Williams and Nick Richards nursing injuries, while forward Miles Bridges is yet to return from a bone bruise that kept him sidelined from November 19.
Charlotte is now expected to turn to rookie Tidjane Salaun, their sixth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The French forward averaged only 16 minutes per game so far but showed intriguing flashes of talent.
The Hornets are currently 12th in the East with a 6-10 record.
