Inter Milan is reportedly close to sealing a deal for Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The 33-year-old player, who spent the past three seasons with AS Roma, is set to arrive at Giuseppe Meazza as a free agent.

According to influential soccer insider Fabrizio Romano, Mkhitaryan will ink a two-year deal with Inter. He also had an extension offer from Roma, but he preferred to go to Milan and play UEFA Champions League next season.

Snapping players on free transfers from their rivals has become a recurring theme for Inter in recent years. They also did the same to their crosstown rivals AC Milan last summer when they lured Hakan Çalhanoğlu to the city’s blue and black side.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan originally joined Roma on loan from Arsenal in 2019. After a promising campaign in Italy, he secured a permanent move to the Seria A side. Mkhitaryan played a total of 117 games in Roma jersey, scoring 28 goals and dishing 29 assists. He was part of the side that won the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League this season.

Mkhitaryan previously also played with Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester United, among other clubs. He won three domestic titles with Donetsk, DFL Super-Cup with Borussia, and Europa League with United.
