When Paul Goldschmidt signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals last season for 5 years and $130 million, everyone expected him to put up the kind of numbers he did in his first 8 years with Arizona.

After starting off the first half of the year with career lows in slugging and OPS, and characteristically low numbers in all other offensive categories, critics began to debate if he had already passed his prime. However as of recent, he has been on an absolute tear. Entering Saturday’s game he was slugging .730 with 25 RBI’s and 10 homers over his last 18 games.

Despite the Cardinals 8-2 loss to the Astros, “Goldy” helped the team go on a 6 game win streak putting them back into first place for the first time this late in the season since 2015. His 6 home run streak ties a club record, an impressive feat for a team as old and storied as the Cardinals.

For the first time since he signed with the team this offseason, nobody is doubting his abilities anymore. When a player like Goldschmidt gets hot, he can carry a team down the stretch, just what St. Louis needs right now after narrowly missing the playoffs three years in a row.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
