The Glazer family, the majority shareholder of Premier League club Manchester United, has announced their willingness to consider selling the club. According to a statement issued by the club on Tuesday, the Glazer family is “exploring strategic alternatives” which include the sourcing of additional funding or a full-scale takeover of the club by a new investor.

Manchester United’s official statement on the matter explained that the process will consist of several steps, including “stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the club’s commercial operations on a global scale, each in the context of enhancing the long-term success of the club’s men’s, women’s and academy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and other stakeholders.”

Currently, the club is expected to hold a market value in excess of £2.5 billion should it be purchased outright. Interested parties include British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, who previously expressed his interest in purchasing the club before revealing that the Glazers were unwilling to sell the club when he approached them in October.

News of the Glazers’ latest decision comes after the club terminated the contract of Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual consent. Ronaldo appeared in an interview with Piers Morgan, where he directed criticism towards the club and its new manager, Erik ten Hag.
