Defender Giorgio Chiellini didn’t take long to make a decision on his future after Juventus opted against offering him a new deal. According to reports, Chiellini is coming to Major League Soccer, where he’s set to join LAFC.

Influential soccer insider Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday that Chiellini to LAFC is a “done deal,” and the two sides have only a few minor details to sort out. The 37-year-old is expected to join his new club in “coming weeks.”

Despite being on the wrong side of his 30s, Chiellini should make a big impact on LAFC. The Los Angeles team is sitting at the top of the Western Conference, but that was mostly thanks to an efficient attack than a strong defense. They allowed 16 goals in 14 matches, which is the same that the Seattle Sounders at no. 10 conceded. But with Chiellini at the heart of the back four, this alarming rate should drop down significantly.

After spending his early career with Livorno and Roma, Giorgio Chiellini joined Juventus in 2004 and went on to play 17 seasons with the Seria A giants. While in Turin, Chiellini made 561 appearances in all competitions, placing him third on the club’s all-time list, and won 20 trophies, including nine Seria A titles.

Chiellini also found glory with Italy’s national team. He represented his county 117 times on the international stage and led the Italians as a captain to EURO 2020 championship.
