The Giants’ 32-31 comeback win on the road over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was highlighted by rookie quarterback Daniel Jones’s coming-out party, but the team didn’t get out of their victory unscathed.

Stud second-year running back Saquon Barkley suffered what was described as a “high ankle sprain” by sources in the second quarter of the game at Raymond James Stadium.

Barkley was injured after catching a short pass from Jones. He tried to evade Buccaneers defensive back Charles Sims to gain extra yardage, but got his right ankle caught up under the defender’s body.

The 2018 NFL Rookie of the Year was immediately helped off of the field before being evaluated in the locker room. He did not return to the game.

Barkley’s injury didn’t, however, stop him from celebrating while wearing a walking boot after the Giants’ dramatic comeback win.

Team doctors are set to further evaluate the 2018 All-Pro selection on Monday in order to find out more about the length of time that he might miss.

It will be hard to replace Barkley, who will at least be out for a few games, but perhaps the team can ride Jones’s Sunday magic to a few more victories to keep them in the playoff hunt during their star running back’s absence.
