San Francisco Giants had an eventful weekend during which they made several roster moves. The most prominent one, however, was their decision to make pitcher Derek Holland designated for assignment.

Giants decision to part ways with Holland comes after a series of bad performances the 32-year-old left-hander put up this season. This was especially the case on Saturday when he allowed four runs, four walks, and two home runs in just one inning against New York Mets.

Other moves that San Francisco made include bringing pitcher Conner Menez and infielder Zach Green from AAA Sacramento and designating infielder Ryder Jones for release.

Derek Holland joined San Francisco Giants in 2018 on a minor league contract and managed to earn a spot in the rotation after Madison Bumgarner and Jeff Samardzija got injured during the season. He managed to put together a solid season, which included a 7-9 record with 3.57 ERA and 169 strikeouts.

Following these encouraging performances, Giants gave Holland a one-year, $7 million deal in the offseason and hoped he will be a valuable contributor in 2019. That, however, did not happen as Holland struggled for the better part of the year which included having four losses and a 6.75 ERA at the start of the season.

Given his bad form this year, Holland will most likely be unclaimed and end up as a free agent. It remains to be seen, however, whether he will find another job in MLB before the season ends or opt to try again in 2020.
