New York Giants’ wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. finally received the contract extension he badly wanted. And it was worth waiting for it since the 25-year-old Pro Bowler will be the highest paid WR in NFL with this new contract.

According to ESPN‘s Josina Anderson, Beckham agreed to a five-year extension, worth $95 million ($19 million per year) with $65 million guaranteed. This means that he will surpass Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers in yearly average ($17 million per year) and Cincinnati Bengals’ Mike Evans in total guarantees ($55 million guaranteed).

We got him until he’s 108,” – said Giants general manager Dave Gettleman in a statement. “I never worried whether or not we would get it done. I’m pleased because the litmus test for a contract is that neither side is ticked off before the ink can dry, and neither side should be ticked off. It’s a very fair deal.

Odell Beckham Jr. was entering the fifth year of his rookie contract, which would earn him $8.5 million. According to the new contract, he will make $1.459 million in 2018 but is set to receive $20 million signing bonus. This helped the Giants to save $3 million against the cap.

According to Beckham, who was asking for a new deal for almost two years, he knew the deal would be made all along, and it was just “a matter of when.”

Honestly, I don’t even know how to explain it,” – said Beckham said in a statement. “I don’t know if it’s a relief, I don’t know — it’s a combination of everything. You’ve worked all your life to get to this point and it’s finally here. I knew that it would get done; it just was a matter of when. And I’m just so happy that it is finally done now.”

Odell Beckham Jr. only played four games in 2017 before being ruled out for the rest of the season due to an ankle injury. It looks like the injury is now behind him, and he will be ready for the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
