The New York Giants are making a switch at the quarterback position once again. Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that second-year signal-caller Tommy DeVito is set to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
DeVito, who already started one game this season, will get the nod after starter Drew Lock suffered a heel injury in a Week 14 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Lock is currently in the walking boot and might not be able to return in game shape in time.
“I can’t tell you if he’d be ready to go right now. So Tommy DeVito will get all the reps,” Daboll said.
Daboll added that he would determine on Friday whether Lock recovered enough to be a backup. If not, the Giants will need to elevate veteran Tim Boyle from their practice squad.
Tommy DeVito started the campaign as a third-stringer but was handed the starting job for Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the benching of Daniel Jones. However, a poor performance in a 30-7 loss, which included 189 yards and zero touchdowns, alongside a forearm contusion, resulted in DeVito losing his job in favor of Lock.
DeVito has seven starts with the Giants, going 3-4 with 1,290 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions.
The NY Giants will likely look to address their quarterback situation in next year’s draft, where they’ll have one of the top picks. They are currently sitting at a 2-11 record, tied with Las Vegas Raiders for worst in the league.
