New York Giants and New York Jets decided to briefly forget they are bitter rivals and they did business on Monday. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Giants and Jets engaged in a trade that saw defensive end Leonard Williams head to the blue side of New York.

Rapoport reports that Jets received a third-round pick in 2020 and a fifth-round pick in 2021 for Williams. The 2021’s fifth-rounder can become a fourth-round pick if Giants sign the player to a contract extension before the start of the next season.

Williams, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, made it clear to Jets that he isn’t going to sign a new deal with the organization. This urged the team to trade him in order to get something back, and Giants emerged as a team with the best offer.

NFL Network points out that Giants and Jets last made a trade in 1983 when Giants traded offensive lineman Chris Foote to Jets in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

Leonard Williams entered the league in 2015 when the New York Jets took him sixth overall in that year’s draft. He made the PFWA All-Rookie Team in his rookie season and earned Pro Bowl appearance the following year.

Williams’ career stats include 236 tackles, 17.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception.
