The New York Giants added a new quarterback to their roster on Tuesday, picking up former Cowboys backup Cooper Rush on a waiver claim.

Rush was added to the Giants’ roster after the claim, and the team waived wide receiver Reggie White in a corresponding move in order to clear space for him on their roster.

Rush moves from one NFC East team to another after spending three seasons in Dallas buried behind Dak Prescott on the Cowboys’ depth chart. He only appeared in two games for the Cowboys during his tenure with the team, completing one pass in a 2017 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The 26-year-old was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan University prior to the 2017 season, and he was named the team’s third quarterback behind Prescott and Kellen Moore.

Rush became the team’s primary backup after Moore’s retirement, but simply couldn’t get on the field much thanks to Prescott’s excellent health and performance.

Now, Rush joins a Giants roster which could see him offered more of an opportunity to play if he makes the team out of Training Camp. He is set to compete with presumed starter Daniel Jones and backup options Colt McCoy and Alex Tanney for a shot to play next season.
