Chelsea has engaged in talks with former player and manager Frank Lampard in an effort to bring him back to Stamford Bridge in an interim head coach role. The 44-year-old Lampard would return to Chelsea until the end of the season, at which point the Blues will hope to secure the services of a new permanent head coach to replace Graham Potter, who has dismissed on Sunday.

After less than seven months in charge, Potter was sacked as the Blues sunk to 11th position in the Premier League table. Now, sources have confirmed that Chelsea has been considering between five and seven candidates to assume the role of manager next season.

The club has already established contact with Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked by Bayern Munich at the end of last month, as well as Luis Enrique, the former Barcelona manager who left his role as Spain coach after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Lampard managed Chelsea for 18 months prior to the appointment of Thomas Tuchel. He then went on to coach Everton, helping them to avoid relegation last season before being sacked in January.
