France got a 2-0 win over Morocco on Tuesday to set up a 2022 World Cup Finals clash against Argentina. They will now have a chance to become the first back-to-back World Cup champions since Brazil did it in 1958 and 1962.

Morocco has eliminated some high-profile teams during their memorable run at this year’s tournament, and their performance against France showed it wasn’t a fluke. Even after conceding an early goal, courtesy of Theo Hernandez, the Moroccans stuck to their plan and had France on the verge of conceding several times. It was only Hugo Lloris’ reflexes and a bit of luck that helped the reigning champs to keep their goal intact.

Still, Morocco’s best effort wasn’t enough, as the most experienced French team controlled the game and did what was necessary to go through. They absorbed the comeback attempt after Hernandez’s goal and then used their opponents’ mistakes to score through Randal Kolo Muani and clear any doubts about the winner.

“Playing two World Cup finals in a row is an incredible moment. We did a good job, it was hard, but we are in the final. We will work hard to win this final,” Hernandez said after the game.

France and Argentina are set to play the World Cup Finals on Sunday. Both countries are chasing their third World Cup trophy. Morocco will play Croatia in the third-place match.
