First baseman Steve Pearce, who was the 2018’s World Series MVP, is done playing baseball professionally. The 36-year-old announced on Tuesday that he’s now “officially retired.”

Pearce spent the previous two seasons with Boston Red Sox, helping the franchise get a World Series win in 2018. The Red Sox decided to let him walk at the end of 2019, considering that he only hit .180 and one home run last MLB season.

During his recent appearance on Boston radio station WEEI, Pearce explained that he isn’t even attempting to land a contract for 2020.

“You know what? It has been a good run. I have 10 years in there. Right now I am officially retired,” said Pearce during a rerun of 2018 World Series.

Pearce also used the opportunity to deny allegations that Red Sox cheated in the series by using replay room to steal signs.

“We won it fair and square,” he added. “Whatever they accused us of, we were all kind of like, ‘I can’t believe this is even an issue.’ Once the report comes out we’re all going to be free.”

Steve Pearce made his MLB debut in 2007 and has since played with seven different teams. He played a total of 766 games in the majors, and his career stats include .254 batting average, 91 homers, and 303 RBIs.
