Wide receiver Torrey Smith won’t be looking for a new job in the NFL after being cut by Carolina Panthers earlier this month. Instead, Smith announced on Friday that he is retiring from professional football.

Smith played eight seasons in the league, winning two Super Bowl rings as a member of Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles. He will retire with 319 receptions for 5,141 yards and 41 touchdowns.

Smith made the announcement via a video posted on social media.

“Dear football, I knew this day would come, and to be completely honest, I’ve been preparing for it my entire career,” – said Smith in the clip. “You and I both knew the game for me wouldn’t last forever. It’s the NFL circle of life and I’m prepared for what’s next.”

Torrey Smith entered the NFL in 2011 after being drafted 58th overall by Baltimore Ravens. He spent four productive years in Baltimore, finishing each season with 767 or more yards and helping the team win a Super Bowl ring.

After his rookie deal expired, Smith decided to sign a big contract with San Francisco 49ers, but things haven’t worked out well for him since then. He had two disappointing seasons with 49ers and then embarked on stints with Eagles and Panthers.

In 2018, Smith only started six games with Carolina and had career lows all across the board. He finished the year with only 17 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
