Veteran right-hand pitcher Doug Fister is saying goodbye to baseball at the age of 35. Fister, who spent the 2018 MLB season with Texas Rangers, decided to retire after spending 10 years in the pros. The news was confirmed by his agent Page Odle on Wednesday.

According to Odle, Fister had several serious offers from MLB teams to play in 2019 as well, but rejected them so he could spend time with his family.

“He’s been contemplating this for a couple of months,” – said Odle of his client’s decision. “The main reason is that he wants to start a new chapter in his life. This is 100 percent family-driven.”

Doug Fister started his professional career with the Seattle Mariners, who gave him his first Major League Baseball start in 2009. After three seasons with the Mariners, he had a stint with Detroit Tigers before joining Washington Nationals in 2013. Fister had his best career season the following year, managing 16-6 record with a 2.41 ERA. After stops with Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox, he signed one-year, $4 million with the Texas Rangers in 2017.

Doug Fister’s MLB career stats include 83-92 record, 3.72 ERA and 970 strikeouts.
