NFL confirmed to ESPN that kicker Josh Brown, formerly of New York Giants, has been suspended for 6 more games following the domestic violence accusations. Previously NFL handed one game suspension to Brown in August 2016, while he was still the member of the Giants. The suspension came after Brown was arrested in May 2015 and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence. After failing with the appeal, Brown accepted his suspension. New York Giants released Brown after he admitted emotionally and physically abusing his wife.
Speaking to ABC News‘ Paula Faris about his behavior in February, Brown said: “I mean I had put my hands on her. I kicked the chair. I held her down. The holding down was the worst moment in our marriage. I never hit her. I never slapped her. I never choked her. I never did those types of things.“
The additional 6 games suspension for Brown came after NFL received new info and reopened the investigation. The investigation concluded that there was a “violation of NFL’s personal conduct policy“. Brown accepted his suspension and will not appeal the decision.
Josh Brown played college football for Nebraska Cornhuskers, before being drafted by Seattle Seahawks in the 7th round of 2003 NFL Draft as a 222nd overall pick. In his rookie season, he kicked a 58-yard field goal against Green Bay Packers, which remains longest in his career. In 2008 Brown signed with the St. Louis Rams, becoming the highest paid kicker in the NFL. He was also a member of New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and New York Giants. During his NFL career, Brown made 314 field goals out of 375 with 83.7 field goal percentage. His honors and awards include Golden Toe Award in 2006 and Pro Bowl selection in 2015.
