After former head coach John Belein left the Wolverines for the chance to coach in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers, it didn’t take the University of Michigan long to find the man that will replace him.

That coach comes in the form of Juwan Howard, a former Michigan standout and NBA star that will come back to his alma mater to lead the men’s basketball program going forward.

Howard played for the Wolverines from 1991 until 1994 and formed part of Michigan’s “Fab Five.” He was one of five members of a highly-ranked recruiting class that also included Chris Webber and Jalen Rose and joined Michigan in the fall of 1991.

The Chicago native went on to be drafted 5th overall in the 1994 NBA Draft to the Washington Bullets. He went on to have a successful NBA career which included one All-Star selection and two NBA Championships.

Howard averaged 13.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in a 19-season professional career.

Now, he will return to the college ranks to coach the Wolverines after spending the past several seasons as an assistant coach with the Miami Heat. Michigan is considered to be a perennial Big 10 title contender and one of the elite programs in college basketball.

Howard’s deal, as announced by the school, includes a five-year contract worth $2 million annually.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
